What we do

The Veteran and Family Wellbeing Agency started on 1 July 2026.

We help veterans and families find trusted wellbeing information, understand their options and connect with services that meet their needs.

How we can help

You can use the Agency website to:

  • find wellbeing information
  • search the national service directory
  • connect with local and national services
  • learn about support for employment, housing, health, education, social connection and family wellbeing.

If you need extra help

If you need extra help, the Agency helpline can explain your options and help you navigate services.

Staff can help veterans and families:

  • identify useful supports
  • find services in their area
  • take the next step to connect with support.

Call the helpline on 1800 823 922.

The helpline is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm in the caller’s local time zone.

Support for complex wellbeing needs

People with more complex wellbeing needs may receive more tailored help through a tiered service model.

For veterans and families preparing to transition from the Australian Defence Force, assistance is available on Defence bases across the country through Veteran and Family Support Officers. You can request an appointment for transition support via the website.

Additional support is also available through Agency case coordination. Case coordination can help a person navigate multiple wellbeing services, plan next steps and connect with the right supports over time.

A referral can be submitted via the website if you require additional assistance and aren't sure where to start.

How we work with other services

The Agency does not replace existing services. We help strengthen how services work together, so people can be connected to the right support.

Other services continue to provide important support:

  • The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) delivers entitlements and services such as compensation, rehabilitation, income support and access to treatment.
  • Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling provides dedicated support for eligible veterans and families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • The Joint Transition Authority (JTA) supports serving Australian Defence Force members as they prepare to separate from service and move into civilian life.
  • Defence Member and Family Support (DMFS) supports Australian Defence Force members and their families to manage the challenges of military life. DMFS remains the first point of contact for Defence members and their families through the Defence Member and Family Helpline.

If you need urgent help

If there is a threat to life call 000.

The Agency is not a crisis service. Options for national crisis services can be found on the Agency's 24/7 page.

Working with providers and communities

The Agency works with providers, community organisations, ex-service organisations and government services.

Together, we strengthen referral pathways and make it easier for veterans and families to find the right support at the right time.

Why this matters

Wellbeing is shaped by relationships, community and access to the right support at the right time.

When systems are complex or disconnected, it can be harder to get help. We are working to change this, so veterans and families feel supported and can navigate their wellbeing journey with confidence.
