Tonight, the New South Wales Blues travel to Suncorp Stadium to take on the Queensland Maroons for the State of Origin decider.  

Can the Blues repeat their 2024 Origin victory? Or will the Maroons claim a 26th series win for the sunshine state?  

No matter which side you’re barracking for, you can’t deny there’s something powerful about sport and the way it allows us to connect, both on the field or off it.  

Academics call it ‘spectator theory’ — the concept that being a part of something, even as a viewer, can help us connect with a community.  

Connection plays a key role in wellbeing. Feeling part of a community, sharing common interests, and spending time with others whether in person or online can help build a sense of purpose and support.  

You don’t have to lace up the boots to be part of something, it can be as simple as inviting someone over to watch the game or attending a local gathering in your community.
