Veteran and Family Support Officers

As a new agency, we are focused on supporting the wellbeing of veterans and families of veterans, starting out with those currently transitioning from Defence.

If you are thinking about transitioning, or are already in the process, it’s a good idea to connect early with a Veteran and Family Support Officer (VFSO). The support you receive will be customised for you and your family, making it simpler to access relevant services and ongoing assistance.

How VFSOs can help

We know that transition impacts everyone differently and your and your family’s needs are unique this is why we offer personalised appointments.

During an appointment, a VFSO can:

  • show you how to use MyService and other online tools
  • explain how to submit claims and access treatment using your Veteran Card
  • tailor support to your particular needs if you have been identified for a potential medical separation
  • offer guidance on supports to help you and your family during transition to civilian life
  • work collaboratively with relevant other people to support your transition.

When a VFSO might reach out to you

Defence may notify the Veteran and Family Wellbeing Agency if you are involuntarily (medically or administratively) separating from service. In these cases, a VFSO in your region will reach out to ensure you and your family are aware of supports that are available throughout your transition from the ADF and while you settle into civilian life.

How to get in touch

VFSOs support all ADF members and their families through transition not just those involuntarily separating. If you or a family member would like to speak with a VFSO to find out what supports are available, please complete the form below and a team member will be in touch to arrange an appointment at a time that works for you—either on base, via telephone or in the community (e.g. a local Veteran and Family Hub).
